Three Arraigned By Police For Attacking Gospel Singer Yinka Ayefele


The Ekiti state police have arraigned three men before a Chief Magistrates court sitting in Ado Ekiti for allegedly attacking popular gospel singer, Yinka Ayefele. The accused have been identified as Kolade Owolabi, 35, Tope Olorunfemi, 22, and Isiaka Yusuf, 20.
The court heard that the accused along with other suspects who are still at large conspired to damage the windscreen of a vehicle belonging to Ayefele, at about 7.30pm on Thursday, October 27, at the Ewi’s palace in the state, Punch reports.
Police prosecutor, Sergeant Bankole Olasunkanmi, disclosed that the musician was at the palace to entertain the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, at the behest of the Ekiti State Government.
Punch reports that the Oba was reportedly visiting for the first since his coronation when the hoodlums attacked Ayefele and his band.
According to Olasunkanmi, “The offence contravened Section 451 of the Criminal Code, Cap C16, Vol 1, Law of Ekiti State.”
The accused pleaded not guilty to the accusations levelled against them, while their counsel, Mr Gabriel Oladimeji, asked the court to grant them bail on the premise that the would not jump bail.
Meanwhile, the prosecutor applied for a short date for prosecution which would allow him time to study the case file and put together witnesses.
Chief Magistrate, Idowu Ayenimo, who presided over the case, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N50,000, with one surety each in like sum before adjourning the case until November 8, 2016, for further hearing.
